The tourism industry and visitors generally have little information about Sámi culture. The lack of knowledge makes it difficult to identify authentic Sámi tourism products. In order to provide information on and promote nationally and internationally the authenticity, responsibility and ethical sustainability of the Sámi tourism entrepreneurs, we must first create culturally sensitive, responsible Sámi tourism certification system with which we are able to verify responsibility and ethical sustainability of products and services based on Sámi values and perspectives. The Sámi tourism certificate is designed to safeguard, sustain and support Sámi community and surrounding cultural environment.
The Sámi Parliament’s seventh Sámi tourism project, The Path of the Calf, or The Responsible Sámi Tourism Certificate: Development of a Model and Digital Application Platform, is funded by the European Union – NextGenerationEU.
